Walter Matson Cline, Sr (1873-1941) lived and worked in Chattanooga, establishing the Cline Studios. His work was primarily, perhaps exclusively, shot in black and white. His son, W M Cline, Jr, a photographer himself, began turning these photographs into postcards and for several decades all the work was black and white. In 1958,W M Jr open his color plant, printing up to 6,000 postcards an hour using an immense bank of 30,000 color negatives.
